Sundry Edition

A Biweekly Newsletter by Salt of the Earth Consulting, LLC
Vol. 18 | May 10, 2023

At Salt of the Earth Consulting, we created Sundry Edition as a way to further our mission to be a trusted and beneficial partner within our community. Each newsletter includes a curated list of articles that fit a theme within the financial services industry. And, because at SOTE we each share a passion for music, we always include a few song recommendations!

Remember Your Reason

Greetings!

This week’s Sundry Edition will be a slight change of pace from our regular newsletter. I was recently reminded of why I joined the financial services industry when reading about the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency’s (OCC) recent visit to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes in Montana. During the visit, Acting Comptroller Michael Hsu asked, “What can we learn from [the Native Americans’] experiences and ensure needs are met? We are here to listen and learn so we can fulfill our mission.” As an OCC alumna and President of the OCC Alumni Association, I am honored to be associated with an agency that deeply understands the importance of ensuring that resources like financial services are available to all.

I had many reasons for choosing a career in the financial services industry, but giving back to my community was at the heart of my choice. I mentioned this recently in our Anniversary Newsletter, but working to strengthen my community and those around me is such an integral part of my life. Reading about the OCC’s visit to the Flathead Reservation also resonated with me as I have just recently returned from the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. For the past 4 years, I have spent a week at Pine Ridge volunteering with the non-profit organization Re-Member. Volunteers help complete projects around the reservation such as building bunk beds, as well as learn about the culture of the Lakota people. It is a truly humbling experience and one that I am proud to share with all of you. I have include a couple of photos from my most recent trip below.

If you are so inclined, I would love for you to get in touch and share your reason for joining the financial services industry. You can also click here to learn more about Re-Member.

Sincerely,

Kathy Dick, Founder & CEO
