Sundry Edition
A Biweekly Newsletter by Salt of the Earth Consulting, LLC
Vol. 10 | November 2, 2022
At Salt of the Earth Consulting, we created Sundry Edition as a way to further our mission to be a trusted and beneficial partner within our community. Each newsletter includes a curated list of articles that fit a theme within the financial services industry. And, because all of us at SOTE share a passion for music, we always include a few song recommendations!
Making Room for Everyone
At SOTE, we are passionate about financial inclusion. So, this week we are talking about financial education, industry events, and building communities – all of which are great ways to make the financial services industry more accessible to everyone.
Earlier this year, the OCC marked the second anniversary of Project REACh, or Roundtable for Economic Access and Change, with a financial inclusion symposium. A full recording of the event is available to watch on YouTube. Bloomberg also shared a Triple Take episode centered on financial inclusion. Their first guest, Kristen Broady of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, stressed the importance of financial education. Next, Rashad Bilal and Troy Millings of Earn Your Leisure discussed their event Invest Fest 2022 which combined investing, entrepreneurship, and pop culture. When asked about their goals for this event, Rashad Bilal replied, “we want to inspire people that have been left out.”
We also wanted to highlight ALLRISE DC, a Washington, D.C.-based organization working to lift women’s careers in financial services through mentoring, networking, and education. On November 1st, Kathy Dick, SOTE Founder and CEO, had the pleasure of attending their event A Seat at the Top: A Panel Discussion with Financial Services Trade Association CEOs. You can head to the ALLRISE Speaker Series page to learn more about the upcoming events that this all-embracing organization has to offer.
Lastly, we wanted to share the latest installment from our blog series I Am Salt of the Earth, The Value of Community. Kathy and special guest Rafael DeLeon, Senior Vice President of Industry Engagement for NContracts, shared their insights on the value of networking and building communities. In this post, Kathy shared her personal experience with joining a community of people interested in making the financial services industry more inclusive when beginning her career.
